A blog about travel, books and navigating your twenties in one piece

Ok, I realise I am one week late in this post. However, I am hoping that you'll be able to forgive me. I wanted to write my thoughts on this day sooner, but unfortunately have not had the time. To many people it may be simply a date, but for me, it opens up this immense opportunity to think about all sorts of insignificant possibilities. I believe I am right in saying that it will be the last identical date for 1000 years. These dates have always fascinated me, even when I was 4 I vividly remember noticing 01/01/01 and wondering about it.

The idea that the next one won't be for a thousand years, although worries me a little, I find incredible. Of course, we won't be here (a thought that always manages to render me apprehensive), and imagining what the world will be like then really intrigues me. Anyway, during an RE lesson that day we decided to put the live time on the board (with my teacher's permission) and proceeded to wait for 12:12am on 12/12/12. It was like it was the ultimate wish, never mind 11:11 on that day! It may have been a soppy thing to do but at 12:12 on 12/12/12, the last identical date and time for the next 1000 years, in the midst of kids screaming and running around, I sat, thinking, and making a wish for my life. I won't write what it was, because then it will never come true ;) But it was really nice to sit there and think about it, and how the world is so incredible and profound and mysterious. All of the worries I had earlier had completely left my mind and I was left with this feeling of contentedness, which was really comforting.

Just a few more ponderings before I go: The world is meant to end on Friday. I know that it is unlikely that it will but I keep having these thoughts in the back of my mind telling me 'what if they've finally got it right? The world is actually going to end and I'm sitting here thinking about what I'm going to have for dinner tonight!' It could happen! Whatever you decide to do on Friday, if you are lucky enough to have a day off or not, I would suggest taking the time to think about all the things you want to do, things you've already done and people you want to spend your time with, because they are what are really important, and they're so easy to forget sometimes.

I think that's enough of my wonderings to last you a lifetime! I think I'm off to do some hardcore revision for my January mocks  find out what's for dinner.
